To pay homage to Naples, the famous writer and journalist Matilde Serao wrote a series of tales about legends and myths of her country passed down for generations: this collection was published in 1891 and entitled “Leggende Napoletane”.
Heartbreaking stories full of hope, joy and the passion that has always characterized the neapolitan people. From one of these tales, Massimiliano Gallo, the Director, drew inspiration to stage neapolitan music and dances for an evening of magic!
The story that spectators will see on stage is the one which tells about the tragic and passionate love between a man and a woman that transcends eras and is still moving. “La leggenda dell’amore” tells of the difficult relationship between the irascible knight Vesuvius and the pious girl Capri.
Hatred reigns between the families of the two lovers and Vesuvius’ attempts to show himself as a worthy match for Capri are useless.
The family of the girl does not want to give in accepting the marriage and decide to isolate her on a vessel in the middle of the sea.
Capri, heartbroken, throws herself into the Mediterranean sea and turns into the island that bears her name, destined to forever look at her beloved Vesuvius who, out of anger, turns into a volcano
